Chuck and Stacey remind viewers that there’s still time to get tickets to attend That’s Voiceover on August 17th 2013 and also the SAG Foundation Poker Classic to benefit the Don LaFontaine Voice Over Lab on August 24th 2013. They also recommend reading the book, Voice Acting for Dummies, written by Voices.com founders, David and Stephanie Ciccarelli. Award-winning actor and Emmy-winning voice director, Charlie Adler sits down to talk about how his amazing career began in theatre and eventually landed him in a hit show on Broadway.

He passionately expresses what people say about acting that “push his buttons” and the common denominator in all forms of acting. Charlie shares how his animation career started upon moving to Los Angeles by  meeting with his then agent, Arlene Thornton and now dear friend, Ginny McSwain that led to his first role on an animated series.

He talks about how he later became a teacher and voice director and what he discovered about the business along the way.

Charlie candidly answers how he approaches animation auditions and why he feels he has been “two people” at different times in his life. He explains how he teaches his students to become comfortable with the unknown in order to achieve your ultimate goals.

An Epidemic: Mediocrity
How many times have we said the phrase “Ah, it’s good enough” when we knew darn well that is wasn't?   God knows, I have been guilty of that myself.  Mediocrity should be illegal in this country.  A crime punishable by a slap in the face and a kick in the ass!  Okay, I’m kidding.  Sort of.

My Way or the Highway : Union VS Non-Union

Woman using a calculatorIf you work with union talent you are likely aware that there is a potential strike on the horizon for the Screen Actors Guild this May.

Usually, AFTRA and SAG are joined at the hip, but things have become a little messy recently to say the least.

For those of you who aren't signatories, this may be of little consequence to you, but for those who are currently working exclusively, or somewhat exclusively, with union talent the question is very real.

Do union politics influence your hiring decisions?

VoiceOver Talent Search

Among the many offshoots of the Ted Williams phenomenon was the radio show featuring Ted talking to VO Pros Joe Cipriano and Randye Thomas.  The two top VO talents invited Ted to be part of their upcoming VoiceOver Talent Search Sho

Apparently it IS true, though…’cause now there’s a FaceBook page  for the show called: BEHIND THE MIC. Meaning, the show is callled ‘Behind the Mic’, and so is the FaceBook page.  It’s just bare-b0nes page right now, but apparently Erik Sheppard, Wally Wingert, Marc Cashman, and Sarah Natochenny are involved (judges?).

I encourage you to go to the Behind The Mic FaceBook page and “friend” it.  This show deserves our support.  In a business that’s suffered an incredible erosion of understanding and rate degredation.
