- I, Shoya Bowman, am a woman who prides myself on turning a dream into a reality. I’m proud to state that I have raised a beautiful daughter who has now blossomed into a young adult. I’m also a very proud daughter that derived from Artistic Parents, Mother(pianist) and Father(artist). I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Columbia College. I am a privileged member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
My true passion is writing, therefore my company, Shoya’s Writings was created in 2005. I was encouraged to write my first book, “Issues,” which is a book of poetry and short stories that deal with relationships and everyday life. Fans of my writing demanded more and I obliged, therefore my second book was written, a novel entitled, “Goodbye Don’t Always Mean Gone.” Throughout my writing I deal with the raw realities of relationships that are faced with abuse, addictions, jealousy, infidelity and more…
I knew that bringing the characters from the pages of my book to a stage would be a daunting task therefore I sought the assistance of a professional Playwright, Mrs. Christine Houston, writer of the 80’s hit television sitcom, 227 was my playwright teacher. She taught me how to transform my work from written form to the stage. I’m thrilled that she is now my mentor and play mother and has continued to watch me bring Love’s Got A Hold On Me to fruition, which was a smash hit for the debut.
I’m a former blogger with the Six Brown Chicks where we held a daily blog page on Chicago Now. I also co-hosted the talk show derived from our blogs on WCIU. I hold private Creative Writing and How to Self Publish workshops for aspiring authors.
What I’ve learned throughout this glorious life I live is that, we must learn to be patient in life because everything truly does happen in Divine order.
